Winnie Marie Robertson: A Tribute to a Remarkable Woman
Marie affectionately called Tina transitioned to heaven on March 17, 2005. What a remarkable gift she was to the house of God, her family, and friends. She had a spirited vitality, and lived an incredible life that lead to her optimism during times of difficulty. Those blessed to have known Marie received a listening ear, the truth, and at the end of every conversation a powerful prayer. A woman of faith, power, and substance; she had a heart for all people. Known to give her last dime, Marie would pause long enough to say a quick prayer, “okay God you know I have needs too,” and then she’d be on her way to help someone else.”
In 1997 it was no surprise to those close to her when Marie announced that she decided to establish an organization to help widows and orphans facing difficulty in an uncertain world. She extended her vision to help grandparents raising grandchildren. Soliciting her friends Marie formed a group of committed people, who clearly believed in her vision, and thus begin Widows and Orphans of God, Incorporated. Her motto “needy people deserved help” and WOG would be that organization, linking people to resources. Recognizing the challenges facing widows, orphans and retiring grandparents raising young children, she established partnerships with various organizations to carry out that work.
On the personal side, Marie had a very strong relationship with God; her faith caused her to believe God for the impossible. However, she did not force her religious beliefs on anyone; but simply extended her hand to help and assist anyone regardless of race, color, creed, sexual preference, or social status.
As the founder of Widows and Orphans of God Winnie Marie Robertson’s spirit remains strong as WOG continues to carry out her vision. As beloved friends we miss her smile, warmth, faithfulness, and the shelter we found in her big bear hugs. Winnie Marie Robertson brimmed with wisdom, kindness, and a love for all animals, great and small. So as a tribute to our founder we hope to encourage you to join us in continuing the vision and work she pioneered.
